Rally Cap (Collingwood Minor Baseball Association)

PrintRally Cap

Welcome to the 6U Rally Cap Program!

We’re excited to welcome your young player to our fun-first, development-focused baseball program for children born in 2020.

6U Rally Cap is not a formal House League division, instead, it is a structured, age-appropriate introduction to baseball skills over a 9-week season.

Our goal is to provide a positive first baseball experience through fun activities, movement, teamwork, and confidence-building.

U6 Coordinators:

  • Jackie Maughan

  • Lisa Abaza

  • You can reach them through SportsHeadz

Season Length

  • Season Duration: 9 Weeks
  • Start Date: Late May
  • End Date: End of July
  • Location: Collingwood diamond

What Your Child Will Learn

Over the season, players develop foundational skills such as:

  • Hitting off a tee

  • Catching and fielding with soft tennis balls

  • Throwing with safe mechanics

  • Running the bases

  • Listening, teamwork, and game awareness

Sessions are 1 hour and include a mix of drill stations and mini-games.

Program Structure

Two teams share each diamond.

Your child will participate in:

1. Skills Station Nights

Players rotate through four fun drill stations focused on catching, throwing, hitting, and base running.

2. Game Nights

Simple, modified games designed for early learners. Every child plays a position and hits each inning.

Parent Participation

The program relies on the help of:

  • Teen volunteers

  • Coaches

  • Parent volunteers

Parents may be asked to:

  • Help guide stations

  • Encourage players

  • Assist during hitting lines

  • Support player safety

Your involvement is appreciated and makes a big difference.

What to Bring Each Week

  • Baseball glove

  • Running shoes or cleats

  • Water bottle

  • Team hat & jersey (provided)

Optional:

  • Sunscreen

  • Batting gloves

  • Small nut-free snack

Age & Safety

  • U6 athletes must be born in 2020

  • Younger players cannot be accommodated for safety reasons

  • All drills are designed specifically for early childhood development

How 6U Fits Into the Bigger Baseball Pathway

Understanding progression helps parents see the “big picture”:

  • U6 (Rally Cap): Intro to baseball, tee-ball fundamentals, fun and learning

  • U7: Local league (Collingwood/Thornbury), coach pitch to pitching machine

  • U9: Full pitching machine baseball

This structure prepares athletes step-by-step for future success.

End-of-Session Tradition

Each week finishes with:

  • A quick recap of skills learned

  • Both teams gathering at home plate

  • Three cheers to celebrate effort and teamwork

Kids love this part, it creates excitement and a sense of belonging.

We’re Excited for a Great Season!

We look forward to giving your child a fun, safe, and memorable first experience with the game of baseball.

Thank you for being part of Collingwood Minor Baseball!
